Canon S100 and Canon G1X Comparison - Digic 5 Processors

Yesterday, I wrote about how I miss having a real camera to take with me whenever I go out of town or when I go out to try new restaurants. Today, my suki hooked me up with a Canon G1X and a Canon S100. The G1X is for me and the S100 is for my mom who is currently using my Lumix LX3 - para mabalik na niya sakin haha!

When I checked the specs of this Canon S100, may laban siya sa G1X kung sa pagiging sulit sa features ang usapan. Tiningnan ko sa Snapsort at Tied sila sa points :) 

So kanina, kumain kami nina Blanca, Bea, at Tanimfa sa BoTan at dun ko naisipan subukan ang dalawang camera na pareho ng processor at magkaiba ng laki ng sensor. Kumuha ako ng naka auto white balance at auto ISO para tingnan natin kung pareho ba sila mag calculate kapag naka auto settings ang camera - na aminin natin, karamihan naman talaga ng sitwasyon eh naka Auto lang talaga tayo pag nag-pipicture. kung hindi, ikaw na :)

S100

f/2 ; 1/30 sec. ; ISO 500

In fairness, sa straight out of the camera jpeg, magkakulay sila at pareho magtimpla yung processor na 1/30 sec. kinalabasan. Dahil f2.0 ang max aperture ng s100, mas kaya nito na lower ISO - sa G1X, na-compensate yung 1-stop ng aperture by bumping up the ISO to 800. Malinis sila pareho diba? :) Galing! Pero san nga ba nagkatalo at ano ang advantage ng mas malaking sensor kung ganon?  Yan ang tanong ko sa sarili ko. So tiningnan ko yung 100% crop nila.

If you'll take a look, the difference is in the details. In the G1X side of the photo, you can clearly see the outline of the teapot. Pati mga pawis-pawis dun sa spout. Sa S100 side, medyo hindi na ganun ka-clear yung details (although, the f/2.0 vs f/2.8 could be the reason), pero kung hindi ka naman magpriprint ng malaki at facebook lang naman ang pinakamalaking lalabasan ng pictures, the S100 is more than enough :) Pwedeng-pwede na kay Mama ito hehe!

Again, kapag maliit lang ang image, almost hindi na makita diperensya nila! Pag in-enlarge na lang at naka zoom to 100% makikita ang difference. But still, kudos to the S100! Nakakasabay siya. In these test shots, may nakakuha ng attention ko, yung G1X naka ISO 1600! Ang malupit nun, ang linis! Pwede mo siyang i-compare dun sa ISO 400 ng S100 sa linis when it comes to noise..... NOICE! So heto na talaga ang camera para sa akin! Low-light, kaya ng high ISO at konti lang ang noise :D

I'm glad hindi ako nagkamali sa pagpili ng camera. I will do more tests with the S100 and G1X and I might even compare it with the 550D and 50D haha tapang!
